Ensure you have vacuumed and cleaned all furniture thoroughly. One crumb can lead to a pest!
Wrap your furniture with bubble or shrink wrap to avoid dents, chips and exposure to dust.
Secure any loose items with tie downs or tape.
Secure dresser drawers so they don't open when lifting.
Tape doors on appliances so they don't open when lifting.
Remove furniture legs to keep carrying light and packing simple.
Ziploc bags are great for screws and can be taped to the furniture or item they belong to.
Wrap your sofa cushions and pillows in garbage or packing bags to keep them clean.
Wardrobe boxes are ideal for clothing.
China boxes and dish packs help keep your china and glassware safe.
Pack your heavy items in smaller boxes that are easy to carry (i.e. books, canned goods, etc.)
Pack books flat to protect their spines.
Extra large boxes are great for toys, linens, blankets and shoes.
Small or Large Mirror Boxes are ideal for your framed pictures and mirrors.
Seal all your boxes with lots of tape this will keep the dust out.
Label all your boxes correctly on all four sides.
Use newspaper, bubble wrap and peanuts to keep boxes full so they don't collapse when moving, stacking or storing.
Storing Your Stuff -
If you don't have a lot of room in your unit, you can gain space by removing furniture legs and dismantling bed frames. You can also place smaller pieces inside drawers.
Store mirror boxes upright to avoid heavy items resting on top and causing damage.
Use sofa cushions and pillows as filler between items in the unit.
Be sure to keep your boxes and items organized so they are easy to get to.
It helps to create a walkway through your contents in the unit. This will allow you to get to the box in the back without pulling everything out. Also, be sure you put the items that you will need last at the back of the unit.
Stack correctly! Heavy items on the bottom and light items on the top.
Small equipment (mechanical/engine type items) should have gasoline removed.
Ensure you are reviewing maintenance/warranty manuals of all appliances and equipment to be sure you are storing these items as directed.
Keep your appliance doors open to prevent mildew.
